Find my Career Direction and Focus my Job Search
3 week online course with workshops, 1-2-1 coaching and Facebook community,
3rd to 24th February 2021 (bookings now closed)

Begin or re-ignite your graduate job search with clarity, focus, community, confidence and accountability.
Are you.....
*a university student or a graduate from the past three years?
*struggling to get started on your work experience or job search because you’re just not sure which career options are open to you?
*in the midst of your work experience or job search but you’re just applying randomly for roles without real direction or motivation?
*in a job but know it’s not really the graduate career path for you?
*feeling lost, overwhelmed, demotivated or lacking confidence?
*ready to commit time and effort to your 2021 graduate job search?
If so, you are in the right place.
I really care about young adults starting and progressing in a graduate career which is right for them – and that means understanding yourself first so you can discover the right career options for you.

The more you then direct your search towards a role that plays to your strengths, that meets your interests and needs, that is for an organisation whose values align to your own, the more successful you will be in promoting yourself to employers and being offered a role that you really enjoy and can progress in.

And despite what you might read in the media, there are still lots of graduate jobs out there!
After eight months of searching and three months working with Rachel, I finally have a job as a parliamentary assistant! Rachel taught me so much about myself and the job-searching process and I honestly think without her help, I would still be the clueless and overwhelmed person I was three months ago. Rachel is so friendly, reassuring and an absolute expert on how to get a job and I have really enjoyed working with her. Thank you Rachel!
Ali, recent graduate

It was an absolute pleasure to work with Rachel. I felt comfortable talking with her from the start, and was able to open up to her about my job anxieties. Rachel helped me to work out what I was looking for in a career, and what I truly valued in a company.
I no longer feel the need to apply randomly to any companies, but instead take the time to make sure the job is also the right fit for me. Lucy, recent graduate
I had applied to a number of recruitment websites and spent weeks going through job postings and websites, applying to any that sounded interesting regardless of whether they would suit my strengths, skills and interests.
Working with Rachel was a revelation. She showed me the best ways to narrow down my search and focus on building a strong and powerful image for potential employers.
Having come from a place of being completely lost, intimidated and overwhelmed, the change has been beyond belief. I now have a job I love, my worries have disappeared and I feel so much more confident in my abilities. Oscar, recent graduate

What are the dates of the course? The course is a three week online live course with five weeks of Facebook group support. Your first workshop will be on Wednesday 3rd February from 6.30-9pm. The second workshop will be on Wednesday 10th February from 6.30-9pm Your 1-2-1 session will be sometime between the 15th and 18th February – I will share available times with you in the Facebook group. The Facebook group will be open for five weeks from 20th January to 24th February. Sign up is by 27th January, only 15 places available.
-
What if I can't make all the dates? There are three dates for commitment and you really need to attend all three to get the most ouf of the course. Each session will however be recorded so if you have to miss part of a workshop you’ll be able to catch up. As the workshops are live it means that your questions can be answered live. Otherwise they can be answered in the Facebook group.
-
What format is the course in?Both the workshops and the 1-2-1 coaching session will be delivered via Zoom. The online support group is via a private and closed Facebook group. You’ll receive workbooks, activity plans and resources in PDF format.
-
I don't have a Facebook profile. All the group chat will take place in our private and closed Facebook group. That’s where I’ll be adding the Zoom links for the workshops, where you can book your 1-2-1 coaching session, where I’ll be sharing all the recordings and materials, and where we can all chat regularly about progress, challenges, ask questions and where I’ll be interviewing recent graduates who have secured jobs. You can just set up a Facebook account for the purpose of this course and then delete your account afterwards. If you really don’t want to set up a Facebook profile then I can share recordings and materials via emails.
-
Will I have homework/actions to do throughout the course?Yes, like any course it’s about implementing the learnings so that you can get maximum benefit from it. And I want you to get results. The more you put into the course, the more you’ll get from it. Each workshop will get you started on different activities and you’ll have workbooks, action plans and resources so that you can do the research and decision-making in your own time. The Facebook group will provide you with a sense of community that you are all in this together, and I’ll be in there regularly to answer questions and provide support. Jobsearching takes a lot of time and effort. The graduate job market has always been competitive and now we have the coronavirus pandemic to contend with. There are still lots of job vacancies but you’ll need to work smarter and harder to figure out what you want to do, where you can add value to an employer and find the available roles.

How does a 1-2-1 coaching programme with you differ from this course?A 1-2-1 coaching programme is completely tailored to your needs and we go at your pace. It's highly personalised and so we can dig much deeper into your mindset and what might be getting in your way of moving forward. I ask you a lot of questions to increase your self-awareness. As the coaching programme takes place over 4-10 weeks I am there with you regularly to support your progress and challenges. My guidance in terms of potential career options, and reviewing your application documents, LinkedIn and job search plans etc. is obviously very bespoke. I am also available on email so if you suddenly find a job you want to apply for then we can work on your application together. This course focuses on the first stages of job hunting, which lay the foundations for you to then search and apply effectively. The workshops will be interactive and you'll be part of a Facebook community so this is much more of a group learning and accountability programme. We do not cover CVs, cover letters or LinkedIn profiles - see next question.

I need some support with CVs, cover letters and LinkedIn. Does this course cover this?"This course covers the first few stages of job hunting – self-awareness, career exploration, job search and networking. Many students and graduates make the mistake of thinking the first stage of the job search is to update their CV. CVs and cover letters need to be totally tailored to the job you are applying for so if you don’t know what you want to do then how will you promote yourself in the best light to recruiters? What this course does cover however is how to do a full skills audit. This can then help you tailor your application documents more effectively. At the end of the course I will let you know about masterclasses I am currently creating on LinkedIn and CVs and cover letters. These masterclasses will be available late February/early March – a perfect timing for you as you’ll have finished this course with much more clarity about what career direction you want to go in. Additional 1-2-1 coaching support is also an option; see next question.
-
Does this course cover interview skills? No it doesn't. It covers the first few stages of job hunting – self-awareness, career exploration, job search and networking. So many students and graduates make the mistake of focusing on getting their CV updated and worrying about interviews as the first stages in their job hunt as they seem like the obvious things to do. But without doing the self-reflection to understand your key skills, strengths, values, interests and then exploring relevant career options you will struggle to communicate to employers what value you have to offer and why you are motivated to work for their organisation. What this course does cover however is how to do a full skills audit. This can then help you with content to prepare for interviews. I also offer 1-2-1 coaching specifically on preparing for interviews whether they are video or face-to-face. You let me know what job you have been invited to interview for and I do all the preparation work to create a realistic mock interview and provide feedback. We cover interview technique (video and face-to-face), how to build rapport, different types of questions you may get asked, how to demonstrate that you are really motivated and have done your research, the types of questions you can ask the interviewers to impress them etc. Do get in touch to discuss interview training if that is what support you would like.
-
At the end of the course can I get additional 1-2-1 coaching on other areas of the job search?Yes , there is always that option as well as doing other courses or masterclasses I run. It might be that you want personalised support with creating powerful CVs, cover letters or bespoke applications. Or interview support. Many of my existing 1-2-1 coaching clients return to me after a coaching programme to get 1-2-1 support with preparing for interviews or changing jobs at a later stage.
-
How long will I have access to the course and materials? For life as you’ll get recordings of the workshops and you’ll have workbooks and resources to keep referring back to. The Facebook group is open for five weeks but the conversation threads and files will be archived from the 25th February so you can access previous posts.
